Hand-editing is not the slow version of measurement. It is a different activity, and for a large part of the work it is the right one.
Hand-edit when you are deciding what the look should be. Measure when the look already exists and you need it back.

Preset packs are not a rip-off. They are somebody's taste, sold. The question is whether their taste fits your photographs — and whether you already have the look you want.
Buy a pack when you want a look you do not have. Measure when you already have it and want it repeatable.

Asking a chatbot for XMP values
Ask a chatbot for a "moody teal-and-orange preset" and you will get a well-formed XMP file in seconds. Ask it to reproduce the edit in these two photos and you will get a well-formed XMP file in seconds. Only one of those answers is meaningful.
Use a chatbot to understand the tools and to draft from a description. Use measurement when there is a specific edit that has to come out right.

Using a LUT generator
A LUT generator and a preset extractor are solving the same measurement problem and writing it into two different kinds of file. The difference is what happens after.
If the look is only ever going into video, a LUT is all you need. If it is going into photographs — or both — you want the preset, and the LUT derived from it.

A lot of people looking for a preset actually want a profile. The two live in different places in the pipeline and behave very differently because of it.
Set the profile first — it is the foundation. Then use a preset for what you did on top of it.
